Creation of Radiology Interest Group

Resolution of Principles - Creates organizational changes and commits resources to action in support of various initiatives. 

[edit] PREAMBLE:

WHEREAS AMSA has several specialty specific interest groups including Surgery, Psychiatry, Neurology, Geriatrics;

WHEREAS Radiology is a growing, competitive specialty, with a large number of applicants each year, and does not have an interest group in AMSA (2006 data from AMMC shows 1110 Radiology applicants for 190 programs across the United States)

WHEREAS a radiology interest group will provide interested medical students a platform to share and discuss opportunities and experiences in the field of Radiology.

WHEREAS a radiology interest group may increase alumni membership and support from future radiologists;

WHEREAS Radiology is not a core subject in the current medical school basic science curriculum, but is becoming vital to the diagnostis and documentation of disease and doctors are expected to know more about reading films than then path slides. (need citation here about percentage of ER patients getting imaging, and percentage of doctors who read their own x-rays)

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that new Radiology Interest Group will be created under AMSA.
